Zimbabwe cricket team reached Lahore
LAHORE: The Zimbabwe cricket team arrived at the Lahore airport Monday night.
Government officials and representatives of the Pakistan Cricket Board (board) were present to welcome the team.
Heavy contingents of police and Rangers have been deployed at the airport.
Earlier today, the spokesman of the National Cricket Association of Zimbabwe Lovemore Banda said the team left Harare for Pakistan.
“The team left (Harare),” said Banda AFP. “They will (Pakistan) via Dubai.”
It is the first tour of Pakistan by a test level team for seven Sri Lankan cricketers were injured in an attack by militants in 2009 in Lahore.
Zimbabwe are scheduled to play two Twenty20 and three one-day internationals in the midst of massive security Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
Views are mixed on the tour with coach Zimbabwe Sri Lanka-born Dav Whatmore optimistic.
“I understand the importance of this visit to Pakistan and I am happy to go there,” he told the Zimbabwe radio. (AFP)
